In order to register to vote:

You must be a citizen of the United States.
You must be a resident of the State of Michigan and reside in the city or township in which you are registering by Election Day.
You must be 18 years of age or older by Election Day.

Voter Registration

All qualified individuals will automatically be registered to vote when performing a driver’s license or personal identification card transaction at a Secretary of State branch office, unless the person declines.
The deadline to register to vote at a Secretary of State branch office, by mail or on-line is now 15 days prior to an Election.
After the 15-day deadline and through 8 p.m. on Election Day, individuals may register to vote in-person at their local clerk’s office, with proof of residency.

Picture identification: Due to a recent court ruling, every Michigan voter who offers to vote in the polls must comply with a voter identification requirement (MCL 158.523) by showing valid picture identification or by signing an affidavit attesting that he or she is not in possession of picture identification.

Acceptable forms of ID include (all must be current except for Michigan Driver's License/State ID):

Michigan Driver's License/State ID (can be expired)
US Passport
Military ID
Tribal ID
High School or University ID
Federal or State Employment ID

Current Utility Bill
Bank Statement
Paycheck
Government check
Other government document

FAQs

How do I register to vote?
To register to vote, you must be all of the following:
- A U.S. citizen
- At least 18 years old by Election Day
- A resident of Michigan
- A resident of the city or township where you are applying to register to vote.
Eligible citizens may become registered to vote in a variety of ways, at any time through Election Day. Individuals who register to vote within the 14-day period immediately preceding an election must appear in person at their city or township clerk’s office and provide proof of residency.

Individuals using any other method must register to vote at least 15 days before Election Day and are not required to provide proof of residency. Other methods of registration include an application obtained at one of the following locations:
- Your local Secretary of State office
- Your local county, city, or township clerk's office
- Offices of several state agencies, like the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Community Health, and the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
- Military recruitment centers
- Voter registration drives
- Online at www.Michigan.gov/sos
What if I'm already registered to vote in another community?

Once I'm on the Automatic Application List to Vote by Mail?

Nothing, prior to every election, the Clerk's Office will automatically mail you an application. The application must be filled out and returned to the Clerk before a ballot can be issued.
Can a ballot be mailed to an address other than my registered address?

Ballots do not have to be mailed to your Wixom residence; however, you must give the Clerk's office the mailing address because the USPS will not forward ballots
Can someone else pick up my ballot for me?

Ballots cannot be given to anyone except the voter who has applied for the ballot. An ID is required to be seen by the Clerk's office before they release your un-voted ballot to you.
