Organization and Staffing
The Fire Department staff consists of a Fire Chief, Fire Captain, an EMS Coordinator, six full-time Firefighters and ten part-time Firefighter/EMTs.
The Department responded to 1,814 calls for service in 2023. Firefighters respond to numerous calls for emergency service, the majority of them are medical emergencies. However, Firefighters also respond to odor investigations, downed and low hanging wires, carbon monoxide and smoke alarms, hazardous material spills, vehicle accidents and fires.
The City has mutual aid agreements with all our surrounding communities and is a member of the Michigan Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MI-MABAS) to share and receive resources.
Firefighters complete several hundred hours of training over a two-year period to become certified as Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians. Additionally, Firefighters receive specialty training in hazardous materials, confined space entry and technical rescue, as well as ice rescue and open water rescue.
