Wixom Historical Society

In an effort to preserve the history of Wixom and promote an understanding of the city’s heritage, the Wixom Historical Society (WHS) was established in 1975. Today, this all-volunteer group works to enhance our community in multiple ways.

  • The Wixom-Wire House Museum, a state historic site located in Wixom, is maintained by WHS.  Visitors to the museum have an opportunity to see what life was like for early local settlers.
  • Donated artifacts, photos, and written materials related to the city’s history are collected, archived, and conserved by members of WHS. Many of these items are displayed permanently at the museum, or in rotating exhibits in the Wixom Library showcase.

  • In an effort to increase the community’s knowledge of local history, Wixom Historical Society provides educational programs and a newsletter, The Wixom-Wire.

  • The Society hosts some of Wixom’s most popular events, including the annual Ice Cream Social in June, the Antique Appraisal Fair & Silent Auction in November, and the Wassail in December. All programs and events are open to the public.

  • The Wixom Historical Society also strives to identify and implement additional methods of preserving our city’s past and communicate historic information.

The Society is actively seeking new members; no special skills are required. Specific information about Wixom Historical Society and Wixom’s history can be found at www.wixomhistoricalsociety.org.
