Department of Public Works Snow Removal

The City of Wixom Department of Public Works (DPW) strives to provide unmatched snow and ice control services keeping roads drivable for all Wixom residents, businesses and visitors during the winter season. Because of the critical nature of this task, the City has developed a snow removal policy designed to prioritize roadway clearing efforts and make efficient use of staff and financial resources.

The first priority is clearing the main areas such as, Charms Road, Loon Lake Road, Potter Road, Beck Road, West Maple Road, Pontiac Trail, West Road, Alpha Tech Drive and the Police and Fire parking lots. Once the main areas are completed, the neighborhood and industrial subdivisions are cleared next. Lastly, the main sidewalks and bike paths are cleared. Winter maintenance of Wixom Road is the responsibility of the Oakland County Road Commission.

Parking During Winter Months

The City of Wixom's Traffic Control Order (TCO) number 88 states:  “No Parking on Any Street, Highway, Parking Lot or Alley After a Snowfall and/or Drifting of Snow of Two (2) Inches or More, Prior to Snow Removal or Plowing By the City on Said Street, Highway, Parking Lot, or Alley.  ”Please remove your vehicles from the street before snow falls. The City’s Department of Public Works (DPW) has talented employees and outstanding equipment to get your streets opened up in a timely manner. But, they can’t do it if the roads are clogged with vehicles.  Police Officers are directed to enforce TCO 88 once the two inch mark has been reached. No Wixom police officer wants to write parking tickets. We ask for all residents, visitors and businesses to comply with the TCO.

Trash During Winter Months

The DPW needs your assistance in the curbside placement of your recycling and trash, especially during the winter months. Please place your trash and recycling containers at the foot of your driveway in line with the back of your mailbox, or clear a spot in the snow behind the curb. This will keep your containers out of the roadway and allow the plow truck to clear the street without hitting the containers.

Resident Snow Removal

As a resident and homeowner, you can aid our community during the winter months by keeping sidewalks clear of accumulated snow and ice, as required per City Ordinance. When clearing your sidewalks and driveways, keep in mind it is a violation of City ordinance to shovel snow into public roadways; this could potentially cause vehicular accidents and or obstruct safe and free movement of automobiles. If you have an elderly or disabled neighbor who is unable to clear their walk, do the right thing and assist them in clearing their pathways.

Please share this information with your Wixom friends and neighbors.
