The Great Lakes Water Authority: A New Era Begins
January 1, 2016 marked the launch of a regional water authority in Southeast Michigan. The City of Detroit, the counties of Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne, and the State of Michigan have officially united to form the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA). The new Authority is yet one more piece of the plan to not only position an emerging Detroit for long term success, but to give suburban water and sewer customers a powerful voice in the management and direction of one of largest water and wastewater utilities in the nation.
The City of Wixom urges its residents to visit the GLWA website at www.glwater.org to learn more about our region's water system. Of particular interest are the Authority's press releases and videos (click HERE).
To help member communities educate consumers about actions they can take at home to protect our water and sewer systems, the Public Education Work Group created four brochures for use throughout the GLWA service area:
• Everyday Actions to Protect our Drinking Water
• Personal Care Habits to Protect our Drinking Water
• Prevent Fats, Oil and Grease from Clogging our Sewers
• Sewer System Bears the Cost of Flushed Wipes
