The City of Wixom partners with Kidde in their Rapid Entry Lock Box program. The keys and/or access cards needed to enter a commercial property are placed inside the lock box, to which only the Wixom Fire Department has the key. If the Fire Department ever needs to respond to an emergency at that location, we will be enter easily without having to break our way in, resulting in faster response and less damage to the property.
This program is not mandatory but is highly encouraged.
To Change the Keys in an Existing Lock Box
If your business already has a Rapid Entry Lock Box installed and you are changing the locks on your doors, be sure to contact the Wixom Fire Department to schedule an appointment to open the Lock Box, and have copies of the new keys ready to place in the box. The best way to reach us is to call (248) 624-1055; we are typically available Mon.-Thu. 9:30am - 3:30pm.
To Order a new Lock Box
If you are a property owner or contractor and you would like to add a Rapid Entry Lock Box to your property, the process is simple:
- Read the flyer linked below, and follow the link in that flyer to the Kidde web store.
- Click “Shop” at the bottom of that page to see what type of lockboxes are available
- Before you purchase a lockbox, you’ll be asked to make an account. This is usually in the name of a business, not a person.
- During the account creation process, where it asks you to input a “Customer Type”, select “Fire Department”. After this, you will be asked which Fire Department your box will be keyed to, and you should select Wixom, MI. (A previous purchasing system, in which we gave you a code to enter, is no longer in use.)
